Adventure filled weekend

This weekend wasn't nearly as jam-packed as most of my weekends have been. But...I certainly didn't lay around the house! On Saturday, Jay and I went on a little driving adventure. We headed southwest, to see what our lovely state has to offer! We found a fabulous little camp site and a place to go tubing on the South Platte River! It will be on our to-do list!

On Sunday, Anne and I went on our 4th hike together! It was just the two of us, and we added about 2 miles to the length of our hike. It was awesome! The day was cool and rainy and cloudy, but it made the hike that much more lovely.

Hiking adventure part 3

I love that I can keep adding to the hiking adventures category. Today we headed up to Beaver Brook to hike. Beautiful!! And the car we saw as we were leaving was the cherry on top of our Sunday. :)

Challenge update

So far so good on my challenge. Although I did miss 1 day. I consider that to be ok, because I am truly making an effort! Speaking of, today was quite the effort. And challenge! At the bright and freaking early hour of 6:30am, Brandy and I met up at Red Rocks (with 4000 of our closest friends) for Fitness on the Rocks!!!! An hour and a half of total body fitness, followed by a quick and painful 30 minutes of core blast! Phew!!! What a way to start a Saturday!!
Brandy is a fantastic fitness partner!

Challenge day 7

Today was exactly that, a challenge. The week has just started, and already I am tired! Truly, its in expectation of the upcoming days. Ahh, but I digress. Did I meet my challenge today? YES! I did. 40 whole minutes of (almost) nonstop dancing. Hooray! I split it up 50/50 hard and soft. So obviously I took a break to change my shoes... And I am glad I did. I feel really good about my reels. Slip jigs are....getting there. Hardshoe? Almost ready to rock! I threw in some ab work at the end and now am ready for bed!

Hiking adventures part 2

Yea! Another part of the hiking adventure! Anne and I met up early this morning for some more hiking. We had a last minute add on of MM, which made it a hiking trio instead of duo.
We headed up to Maxwell Falls. A bit if a tough hike, but so pretty!

Challenge day 5 and more

So, I missed a day in my challenge, Friday. :( but... I got up early Saturday morning and went for a nice run. It didn't make up for missing a day, but I did go! The rest of the day was spent walking around in the heat at the Colorado Renaissance festival.  I consider that a successful challenge day... And a fun one as well!
We saw a man breathing fire:
And Jay got to nom nom a turkey leg
We listened to some great music too!

The evening was spent with good friends and some seriously awesome food. I didn't take any pictures of the gathering, but we did have a crazy set of storms that lasted all evening, I grabbed a quick shot of the clouds:

Best boyfriend in the world!

Who? Mine of course! Jay. Not only does he come to my dance competitions and shows and cheer me on...but he has moved up from that. How you ask? By putting down a small (7x5) dance floor in our guest room. Complete with covering and mirrors. Yes. Really. It's not perfect. It's not professional. But it's mine. And I can now practice at home! Which is good, since I have all those new steps to learn :)

Dance

So...after much time and much frustration, I can honestly say I am back to enjoying dance again. Yes, really. No, I didn't end up switching schools (dancing as an adult in kids competitions is not easy). Instead....Julie took over teaching our advanced prize winner class. What does this mean?
NEW STEPS!!!!!!
It also means working my ass off to get the new steps down...and I am ok with that.
I will try to post some video clips of the new steps soon!

21 days challenge

So, I've read before that it takes 21 days for something to become a habit. Specifically along the lines of diet and exercise. Now, while I consider myself a relatively healthy individual, I can always be better. Especially if I want to be a better dancer! So.... I am putting myself on a 21 day challenge. And...leaving you, my readers (all 6 of you?) to hold me accountable. Or really, I can feel like someone is holding me accountable.  My goal? Workout for at least 20 minutes a day. Everyday. For 21 days.

I started Monsay. 20 minutes of soft shoe dance work on my tiny (yea!) dance floor.

Tuesday? 25 minutes of hardshoe. And so it begins!

Wednesday was a full dance class. While class is actually an hour and a half, I usually only count it as an hour of dance. We rest in between!

Today wasn't nearly as intense. My feet tend to be pretty sore the day after dance....and add in the fact that I danced on Monday and Tuesday...and I was pretty achy. So, after dinner, Jay and I went for a quick (brisk) 20 minute walk after dinner. Lovely!
So....17 more days to go! Can I stay on track? I hope so! From here on out I will try to post everyday après workout. Challenge accepted!

Fourth of July

This year's 4th of July celebration was split into two pieces. The first was actually on July 4th...spent at the lovely MM's outdoor patio. Good food, good drinks and lots of good people!
The second piece of the holiday was a couple days later, when Jay and I headed to the Rapids game for a night of soccer and fireworks!!!
